All Merewif gold plated jewelry is 100% brass with sterling silver underneath. Merewif uses a much thicker gold plate than the industry standard, and once the pieces are plated, a protective finish is added to prolong the life of the gold plate. Merewif's gold plated jewelry should hold it’s plating for years if the wearer takes proper care of the piece.
Merewif uses gold filled chain on certain delicate necklace styles. Gold filled jewelry is composed of a number of layers wherein a gold alloy is permanently bonded to the brass core with both heat and pressure. Because of the permanent nature of gold filled jewelry, this category tends to be slightly more expensive than plated or vermeil jewelry but should not be confused with solid gold jewelry.
In order to maintain a prolong life of the jewelry, the maker recommends removing the jewelry during shower/swimming and cleaning with harsh chemicals. It is advised to store the jewelry when not in use in a given padded box. If needed, clean with damp cloth.
